Supporting Aotearoa’s rainbow people: A practical guide for mental health professionals.
A useful booklet resource developed from research that included 1600 rainbow people in Aotearoa NZ. To create this resource, researchers from Victoria University of Wellington’s Youth Wellbeing Study teamed up with RainbowYOUTH, InsideOUT, and Gender Minorities Aotearoa. There are also free posters available on the website that are excellent for display in clinical spaces. Although it is aimed at mental health providers, this is a good introductory resource for any clinician.

Warming the Whare for trans people and whanau in perinatal care
A final report that includes findings from both phases of the the Trans Pregnancy Care Project, and guidelines and recommendations for trans-inclusive perinatal care in Aotearoa NZ. Highly recommended for anyone providing care for patients during pregnancy and birth.

- Understanding of the specific issues facing Rainbow people with AOD issues, including stigma and discrimination

Supporting Trans people – Gender Minorities Aotearoa e-learning
This course is designed to increase your knowledge of issues affecting transgender people in Aotearoa, and to build your confidence in speaking about these issues and supporting transgender people. It is a 101 course and suitable for people with any level of knowledge on transgender issues. It takes 2-3 hours total but is broken into 3 sections that can be completed separately.

AusPath E-Learning Module: Trans Primary Care
The overarching purpose is to promote more inclusive and responsive services for trans people in primary health care settings.
This online training module – the first in Australia – has been developed by the University of Melbourne in collaboration with leading clinical and consumer experts in trans health care. It has been endorsed by AusPATH, and is designed for general practitioners, practice nurses and medical students to become familiar with and sensitive to the diverse terminology, experiences, health issues, standards, and referral pathways with respect to trans clients (binary and non-binary).

AMSA Queer – Wavelength med course
Wavelength is a free, open access resource on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex health for medical students and health professionals. It covers off key information for clinicians about sexuality, gender, intersex and asexuality, and starts off with an introduction to terminology so is a great course if you want to start with a 101.
You can access a number of lectures, clinical scenarios and quizzes through the Go1 Portal, for free.

Medical Curriculum Guide for LGBTQIASB+ Health from AMSA Queer and AMSA Gender Equity
This best-practice guide for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (trans), Queer, Intersex, Asexual and Aromantic, Sistergirl and Brotherboy (LGBTQIASB+) and gender equity education within Australian medical curricula was developed across 2022 and 2023 by the Australian
Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Queer and AMSA Gender Equity committees, with support from the AMSA National Advocacy team.

Rainbow Communities Project and Service Improvement Matrix
This project was a 2023 evaluation of how staff in the local Public Health Service in the Greater Wellington Region of Aotearoa NZ worked with rainbow communities. A survey was conducted to understand staff self-assessment of competencies and assesment of the service as a whole. The results from this work were then reviewed by a diverse panel of rainbow health experts. From this work a service improvement matrix was developed which could form a base for other health services wanting to improve the way they work with rainbow communities and imporve cultural safety.
